About Surat Metro
Surat Metro is a 40.35 km rapid transit system (total length: 21.61 km Red Line + 18.74 km Green Line) being built by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) across two corridors in India's diamond and textile capital. The Union government approved the project on 11 March 2019 at a sanctioned cost of Rs 12,020.32 crore, with 50:50 equity funding from central and state governments plus bilateral loans from France's AFD (EUR 250 million) and Germany's KfW (EUR 442.26 million). The Green Line covers 18.74 km east-west from Bhesan to Saroli with 18 elevated stations. Both lines connect at Majura Gate, the network's only interchange.
