The underground stretch runs from Labheshwar Chowk to Chowk Bazar, passing directly under Surat Railway Station - one of the busiest junctions in western India. Three tunnel boring machines excavated this section: Amrit, Narmada, and Tapi, named after rivers significant to Gujarat.

TBM Amrit achieved its breakthrough at Chowk Bazar Station in August 2025, marking a major construction milestone. The underground stations feature platform screen doors, forced ventilation systems, and emergency evacuation shafts designed to NFPA 130 standards.

First trains on track since 29 March 2026

Trial runs cover the 8.5 km elevated section from Dream City to Althan Tenement, with 7 stations operational for testing. This stretch connects directly to the Surat Diamond Bourse, earning it the "Diamond Corridor" name.

Testing covers safety mechanisms, braking systems, speed parameters, and security protocols across 500+ planned hours. RDSO and CMRS independent inspections must clear before commercial operations begin. The Diamond Corridor section is expected to open by mid-2026.
