Fare and Ticketing Questions

How much does a Surat Metro ride cost from Surat Railway Station to Dream City?

The expected fare from Surat Railway Station to Dream City is Rs 40 (token) or Rs 36 (Smart Card with 10% discount). The distance is approximately 17 km along the Red Line with 13 intermediate stops and no interchange required. Travel time is estimated at 32-35 minutes.

Is the Smart Card worth buying for daily commuters?

A Smart Card saves 10% on every ride compared to buying individual tokens. A daily commuter travelling Sarthana to Majura Gate (Rs 20 token fare) would save Rs 4 per day or roughly Rs 104 per month. The Rs 50 security deposit is refundable, so the card effectively costs Rs 100 for the initial balance. It pays for itself within the first month for anyone riding more than 3 times per week.

Can I use the same ticket on both Red and Green Lines?

Yes. A single token, Smart Card, or Tourist Card covers your entire journey including the interchange at Majura Gate. If your route crosses from the Red Line to the Green Line (or vice versa), the fare is calculated on total distance travelled, not per-line. You do not need to buy a separate ticket when transferring.

What happens if I lose my Smart Card with balance on it?

Report the loss at any station counter immediately so the card can be blocked. GMRC is expected to offer a replacement card with the remaining balance transferred, minus a handling fee (typically Rs 50). The original Rs 50 security deposit is forfeited on the lost card. Registering your card with a mobile number at the time of purchase speeds up the blocking and balance recovery process.

Do children under 5 need a ticket on Surat Metro?

Children under 3 years travel free without a ticket. Children aged 3-12 are expected to receive a 50% concession on the applicable fare. Children above 12 pay the full adult fare. Each adult can bring one child under 3 free of charge; additional children under 3 require a child-fare ticket.

Fare data based on GMRC DPR projections and comparable Indian metro systems. Final fares will be announced by GMRC before commercial launch.
