Frequently Asked Questions

All FAQs
How do I plan a route on this website?

Use the route planner at the top of this page or the dedicated route planner page. Select your source and destination stations from the dropdowns, and you get the full station list, estimated travel time, fare, and whether a transfer at Majura Gate is needed. The planner covers all 38 stations across both corridors.

What are the metro operating hours?

Trains run from 6:00 AM to approximately 10:40 PM (last arrival). Peak-hour frequency is every 4 minutes (8:00-11:00 AM and 4:00-8:00 PM). Off-peak trains run every 8 minutes midday and every 10 minutes in early morning and late night slots.

Does the metro connect to Surat Railway Station?

Yes. Surat Railway Station is an underground stop on the Red Line, station #8 between Central Warehouse and Maskati Hospital. The platform has a direct pedestrian tunnel to the railway station concourse. From Dream City, the ride takes roughly 20 minutes with no transfer needed.

Can I use UPI or contactless payment for tickets?

Smart Cards support QR code and NFC-based payment. The card costs Rs 150 (Rs 50 refundable deposit, Rs 100 initial balance) and gives 10% off every ride. Recharge at station counters from Rs 100 to Rs 2,000 per top-up. Single-journey tokens are also available at ticket vending machines.

Is there parking at metro stations?

Most elevated stations include kiss-and-ride drop-off zones. Select stations have bicycle parking and dedicated two-wheeler/four-wheeler parking as per the DPR. Dream City and Bhesan, the two terminus stations with depots, have the largest parking areas. Check individual station pages for details.

Are stations accessible for wheelchair users?

Every station has elevators, ramps, tactile path guidance, and platform screen doors. Underground stations add deep-level platform access and forced ventilation. Divyang passengers receive a 50% fare concession on Smart Card travel with valid ID.

How to reach Surat Diamond Bourse by metro?

Take the Red Line to Dream City station, the southern terminus. Dream City is directly connected to the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world's largest diamond trading hub. The 8.5 km stretch from Althan Tenement to Dream City is known as the "Diamond Corridor" and was the first section to begin trial runs in March 2026.

Surat mein metro kab chalu hoga?

Surat Metro ka pehla section (Dream City se Althan Tenement, 8.5 km) par 29 March 2026 ko trial run shuru hua. Yeh "Diamond Corridor" section mid-2026 mein commercial operations ke liye khulne ki ummeed hai. Poore Phase 1 ka 40.35 km network December 2027 tak chalu hone ka target hai. Red Line mein 20 stations aur Green Line mein 18 stations honge.

About Surat Metro Rail Project

Surat Metro is a 40.35 km rapid transit network under construction across two corridors in Gujarat's diamond and textile capital. The project, approved by the Union government on 11 March 2019 with a budget of Rs 12,020 crore, connects 38 stations from Sarthana in the north to Dream City in the south (Red Line) and Bhesan in the west to Saroli in the east (Green Line). PM Modi laid the foundation stone on 18 January 2021.

Two corridors, one interchange

The Red Line (Corridor 1) stretches 21.61 km with 20 stations - 14 elevated and 6 underground. The underground section runs 6.47 km between Labheshwar Chowk and Chowk Bazar, excavated by three tunnel boring machines named Amrit, Narmada, and Tapi. TBM Amrit completed its breakthrough at Chowk Bazar Station in August 2025. The Green Line (Corridor 2) covers 18.74 km with 18 fully elevated stations. Both lines intersect at Majura Gate, the network's only interchange.

Trial runs and opening timeline

The first trial run began on 29 March 2026 on the 8.5 km "Diamond Corridor" between Dream City and Althan Tenement - a stretch that connects directly to the Surat Diamond Bourse, the world's largest diamond trading hub. Seven stations were operational for testing. RDSO and CMRS safety inspections must clear before commercial operations begin. Track the latest milestones on the construction progress page. The Diamond Corridor section is expected to open by mid-2026, with full Phase 1 operations targeted for December 2027.

Trains and infrastructure

Titagarh Rail Systems is manufacturing the metro coaches under an Rs 857 crore contract. Trains run on standard gauge (1,435 mm) track with 750V DC third rail electrification and a design speed of 80 km/h. DB Engineering & Consulting signed the signaling and train control systems contract in October 2025. Dilip Buildcon handles elevated viaduct construction on Corridor 2 across two packages worth over Rs 1,700 crore combined.

Fares, Smart Cards, and ridership

Expected fares range from Rs 10 for trips under 2 km to Rs 60 for end-to-end journeys across 7 distance slabs. A rechargeable Smart Card costs Rs 150 (Rs 50 refundable deposit) and gives 10% off every ride. Tourist Cards offer unlimited travel at Rs 200 (1-day) or Rs 500 (3-day). Students and senior citizens get 25% concessions, Divyang passengers get 50%. The GMRC DPR projects 3 lakh (300,000) daily riders once fully operational. Check train timings for frequency and first/last train details.

Funding and future expansion

The project is jointly funded by the central and Gujarat state governments (50:50 equity), with EUR 250 million from France's AFD and EUR 442 million from Germany's KfW development bank. A proposed 4.4 km extension from Saroli to the Surat HSR Station at Antroli would connect the Green Line to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, adding 3 new stations at an estimated cost of over Rs 1,400 crore. This extension awaits Union Cabinet approval. Use the route planner to explore journeys across the network, or browse the full interactive map with all station locations.
