Psychometric Test (SC/TO only)

Candidates applying for Station Controller/Train Operator face an additional psychometric aptitude test after clearing the written exam. This evaluates cognitive ability, situational judgement, and stress handling required for train operations. The qualified list was published in August 2026.

Medical Fitness

All selected candidates must pass a medical examination per GMRC's published medical standards. SC/TO candidates have stricter vision and hearing requirements due to train operation safety standards. Candidates with correctable vision issues should review the standards PDF before applying to avoid last-stage disqualification.

The recruitment cycle moved quickly from application to results. Provisional answer keys came within weeks of the exam, with final merit lists published by August 2026.

Selection Process

1

OMR Written Exam

Separate papers per post. Trade-specific technical sections carry the highest weightage. General awareness and aptitude sections are common across posts but with varying difficulty levels.

2

Psychometric Test (SC/TO only)

Only for Station Controller/Train Operator applicants. Assesses cognitive ability and situational judgement. Jr Engineer and Maintainer candidates skip this step and proceed directly to document verification after the merit list.

3

Document Verification and Medical

Shortlisted candidates verify original documents (educational certificates, age proof, caste certificate if applicable) and undergo medical examination per GMRC's published standards. SC/TO candidates face stricter vision and hearing thresholds.

4

Joining and Training

Selected candidates receive joining letters for the 5-year contract. Pre-service training covers metro operations, safety protocols, and specific role responsibilities. Timing aligns with Surat Metro's planned commercial launch.

Current Status (September 2026)

Selection in final stages

GMRC has issued important notices in September 2026 for both SC/TO and JE/Maintainer candidates. Merit lists (general and reserved) are published for Junior Engineer and Maintainer posts. The SC/TO psychometric test qualified list is out, with final selection underway. Candidates on the waitlist should monitor the careers page closely, as GMRC has a pattern of drawing from waitlists over extended periods (the 2023 batch waitlist selections continued through February 2026).

Previous O&M Recruitment Batches

GMRC re-advertises and draws from waitlists regularly. Even if you missed the 2026 cycle, future batches are likely as the metro approaches full commercial operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What posts are covered under GMRC Notification 15 (O&M Non-Executive 2026)?

Notification GMRCL/HR/RECT/O&M/2026/15, dated 29 April 2026, covers six posts across three categories. Operations: Station Controller/Train Operator (SC/TO), requiring a graduation degree. Engineering: Junior Engineer in Electrical and Electronics streams, requiring a diploma in the respective branch. Maintenance: Maintainer in Fitter, Electrical, and Electronics trades, requiring an ITI certificate. All positions are on a contractual basis with an initial term of 5 years. The age limit is 18-28 years for SC/TO and Junior Engineer posts, and 18-25 years for Maintainer posts, with relaxations as per government norms for reserved categories.

How was the GMRC O&M 2026 exam conducted and what was the pattern?

The exam followed an OMR-based (pen and paper) multiple-choice format with separate question papers for each of the six posts. GMRC published the full syllabus in a dedicated PDF before the exam, covering trade-specific technical knowledge, general awareness, reasoning, and quantitative aptitude. Provisional answer keys were released in July 2026 as six separate PDFs, one for each post. Candidates could raise objections during the specified window. Final answer keys were published after evaluating all objections. For SC/TO candidates who cleared the written exam, an additional psychometric aptitude test was conducted before the final merit list.

What is the current status of GMRC Recruitment 2026 results?

As of September 2026, OMR marks have been declared for all six posts. Merit lists and reserved category lists have been published for Junior Engineer and Maintainer positions. For the SC/TO post, the psychometric test qualified list has been released, and the final selection process is underway. GMRC has issued important notices in September 2026 for both SC/TO and JE/Maintainer candidates regarding further steps. All results, merit lists, and notices are published on the official GMRC careers page at gujaratmetrorail.com/careers/ and candidates should check there regularly for joining instructions and document verification schedules.

Is this the first time GMRC has recruited O&M staff for Surat Metro?

No. GMRC has conducted three non-executive recruitment batches to date. The first batch (Notification 12, December 2021) recruited SC/TO, Customer Relations Assistants, Junior Engineers, and Maintainers as the inaugural O&M hiring drive. The second batch (Notification 05, May 2023) recruited similar roles primarily for Ahmedabad Metro Phase II operations, with waitlist selections continuing through February 2026. The current 2026 batch (Notification 15) is the third drive and is specifically targeted at staffing Surat Metro operations ahead of commercial launch. GMRC frequently re-advertises and draws from waitlists, so candidates who do not make the initial cut may still receive offers later.
